Does anyone have an extra cartridge guide for either or both the Chiappia (Armisport) Spencer 44-40 or 56-50.  The piece I'm talking about is the curved metal piece on the lower block behind the lane extractor.

Thanks PvtGreg

Hello:

Are you referring to the thin, flat piece with two holes that fits into a slot?

If so, I have them for ORIGINAL Spencers.  Can send dimensions.  Maybe they interchange.

Oops:
Mine have three holes, but only the two end holes appear to be used for cross screws.

Anyway, the dimensions on mine are:
Thickness:  .0635" - .064".
Distance between the centers of the outer holes: 1.30", approx.
Hole ID:  .134"

These fit original, 56-50 lower blocks.
I have been told that original cams were hardened in-place because of warpage/fit issues.

These are set to achieve the correct cam height profile of .132" at max. CENTER height and .060" at the end nearest the breech.

Neither Lodgewood nor S&S have originals or ones for AS's.

Cam profiles for different AS cartridges such as 45LC, VARY.

I am referring to that piece - thanks for the dimensions i'll do some measuring and see what the differences are.

This is actually for a 56-50 that I'm having issues levering round out of the mag on.  Out of a sense of adventure I used the 44-40 block with its higher guide and the issues were resolved.

I think the real issue is the original from Chiappa was too low in the first place, but the longer narrower nosed live rounds I shoot were able to position ok as the lever levered the round in.  The 32ga shotgun blanks I got from Todd use to work great too, but  wear over the years (like 6 now!) has caused some threshold to be reached and now chambering is problematic.  I've called around in hopes of scoring one, but no luck.

I'll measure and see whats what.

Thanks again - Greg

I learned that with our flat-nosed bullets, the cam profile I noted, so often agreed upon by the likes of our esteemed HERBERT, may need tweaking.

For me, it was still a cut and try process.  Even with the right cycling rhythm, bullet hardness, in favor of a much harder 18 or more Bhn alloy was required to reduce grabbing by the rotating block.
