Lawyer Safety??  Buried in the Firing Pin Extension Rod, just like the '73.  "IF" Miroku made it.  Could very well be a Uberti  :o :P ;D

Since it says, "Winchester" on the bbl, it must be Miroku.

Most likely.  However, there are lots of foreign made guns stamped "Winchester" over the years.  Even if Uberti made it, it could still say Winchester if Winchester contracted for it to be made.  I'm going to the SHOT Show in a couple of weeks.  I'll see if Winchester has a 66 there.

Mike

Will be interesting to see if it has the same strock angle as the Jap 73 ;D

Finely saw a decent picture of the "new" 1866.  The picture showed the extension rod with the action open and the extension rod displayed
all the "extra" parts Miroku put in the '73.  So, much as I thought it would be too expensive for the Japanese to tool up for a limited
production rifle, it would appear they have done just that.  So ....... Miroku is now building an 1866.  But .... Why??

150th anniversary.  ;)

Coffinmaker

Oh sure.  150th Anniversary.  Miroku having a 150th Anniversary.  Sure................
Winchester having a 150th Anniversary.  Hasn't been a "real" Winchester Gun Company in years ........

OK.  I'm being a Curmudgeon.  Nay-sayer.  But both of the above are true.  Whom ever is currently the owner of the Winchester name
has contracted with Miroku to build reproductions of famous guns.  Even marked like famous guns.  Then marketed to unsuspecting
buyers in this country.
And people gripe about HRA.  At least HRA makes guns in THIS country.

Major 2

what he said ....  150th Anniversary of what ?   a ghost ?
when planets align...do the deal !

Mike

I think the 1866 is a classic gun from the history of the period we all enjoy,  we want to own and shoot these guns. At the price reported i personal would if i did not have one already buy a Uberti.
If i wanted a Winchester 1866 and could afford it i would buy a real one. I cant so tuff, life is like that. ;D

Mike,
The possibility of finding and being able to buy a "real" Winchester 1866, in Central Fire, in shootable condition, not locked away in some
collectors vault is about Zero.

That Japanese built 1866 isn't a Winchester.  It's a Miroku.  It doesn't even come close to Winchester internals once you get past the
Toggle Links.

Please understand, I'm not saying it's not a really nice rifle.  It is a really nice MIROKU rifle.
