I been pondering two options and id take anyone's opinion.  Would it be better to put an aftermarket bird's head grip on my blackhawk or trade it in for a vaquero with a factory Bird's head grip?

First, shoot one with a bird's head grip. I shot my Ruger Bird's Head for a match in FCD class with full house BP loads. The next day, I had a bruise on my palm from where the grip was rests on it. I need to get some different grip panels. Everyone's hands are different.

I have a pair of the birdsheads and I enjoy them. Silver Creek Slim has given you good advice as different hand shapes take to different grips differently!

If you like the grips and want to go in that direction I would recommend getting ANOTHER gun, keep the old one too!

If you don't want to do that I would trade for a birdshead gripped gun instead of trying to fit a set.

If you are fairly handy with tools putting the grip frame on shouldn't be too bad but they usually require some fitting which means grinding, sanding and polishing.

i trust slim's advice but i doubt i'd bruise my hand with .38 specials.  More likely my ego from missing the target:)

i like the idea of a brass frame bird's head on the gun

I have a Uberti Buckhorn with a brass frame I really like the looks of it.  :)

I'm currently workin' on a pair of BH grip frames to go on a pair of .44 K-Vaq's.
I'll letcha know how they come out when finished.
I went with Qualites 'stead of Ruger due to the cost difference. ::)
I'm goin' after the Doc Holliday (Tombstone movie) look, if'n I can. :o
