Good morning, Gentlemen!  I had a man contact me through our Facebook page that has a Pedersoli Trapdoor Carbine for sale.  He thought someone here may be interested.  He's asking $700. and it looks very nice.  If anyone is interested, I'll try to get the parties in contact with each other.

Looks like it's sold to Good Troy.  That was fast!

Yes...it was/is a good price!  It is better than $200 less than any that I've been monitoring on auction sites.

The carbine should ship out to me today.  It is possible that I will have it by the weekend.  I'll post some pictures if anyone is insterested...it is only a repro.
The seller is a re-enactor, and to encourage me, he has thrown in a McKeever box.  This gentleman has been a pleasure to deal with...
Now...I just need a uniform of sorts, and some more accoutrements.
Would an 1870's or 1880's artillery man have been issued a trapdoor carbine, or were they reserved for the cavalry?
Any recommendations for reference books on uniforms and small arms?  I have but one on the subject, though it is a good documented source, I'd like some more.

Quick Fire

Good Troy,

The U.S. Army in the West,1870-1880" by D. McChristian is probably one of the best, my opinion of course. Also "Bugles, Banners, and War Bonnets" by E.L. Reedstrom .

Thanks Quick Fire!  I have the McChristian book...I couldn't remember the name/author of it at the time of the previous posting.  I've just started to read it last night.  I picked it up at Ft. Verde on vacation last month, and have only thumbed through it.  I'll have to check out the Reedstrom book, too.
