Went out and played with my Chronograph today, thought you might be interested.

24" Carbine, 2 loads, both with 12 grains TB, WLR primers, but with different bullet weights:

-200 Lee RN- 1211 fps avg, SD 6

-155 Lee Spitzer- 1284 fps avg, SD 7

The powder charges were thrown with a Lee Perfect drum type measure.  Measure was checked randomly thru the loading run, but individual charges were not weighed.  It has always seemed very consistent with this powder. Bullets seated in the provided crimp groove and fed from the magazine.
Civilize them with a Krag . . .

That's about matches my "guesstimation", I use 11.5 gr, and it's at least fast enough to be super sonic, judging from the "crack", It must be over about 1150fps.

I generally use the old wooden stocked battle rifles for 100 and 200 yard "Vintage High Power" matches and use the original type jacketed loads with various IMR powders. You know, I had not messed with Trail Boss cast bullet rifle loads (except to test a 45/70) since the '09 Muster. Then I go and decide to blow the dust off the old bottles of Trail Boss and dig out the gas checked cast bullets so I could start getting used to the GAF loads in a Krag again.

What powder charge? 12 grains-then I see this post! I settled on the 12 grains because some time back I read that was about how much Pony Express used.

    Great timing!  :D
