Things I ponder...

In the not so distant past I wanted to own just one Colt SAA.  Eventually I made that happen.  Kept that gun what seemed to be a good long time.  44-40/44Special, 4 3/4" B/C.  When I could afford them I added a pair of carved ivory.  Carved ivory was $350 then from Eagle.  The gun cost me $750. wholesale.  $1000 was a LOT of money to me at the time.  Still is.

Kept that gun until I saw the all USA made USFA guns.  They were a better put together pistol than my 3rd Gen Colt.  Close to or as good as my family's 1st Gen I thought.   And that 3rd Gen was as good as any third I've seen since!  Put simply, the USFA guns were better shooters.  I buy shooters, not collectors.  So I made the trade USFA for a Colt.  Wasn't too long after that a health crisis had me selling off a good part of my gun collection...just so my widow wouldn't be burdened.

I lived through all that obviously but really regretted selling my small USFA collection.  As the prices zoomed skyward I was lucky enough to replace and better what I had originally.  Thankfully on many counts.

If you are on this forum likely you have seen the prices spiral out of control and until just recently not slow down in the last couple of years......while original buyers might pick up double their original retail price.  Appalling situation IMO.  While some make it even worse reselling.  Myself included as required.

But this post isn't about USFA guns or even Colt's.  And I have a few of each that I shoot or have locked up for "safe keeping".

When I thought my health required it, I sold all but two SAA  guns, a family Colts' and a Uberti/Cimmeron SAA, 7th Calvary 45 LC Scout, Model P.   The  Cimarron Uberti is likely the most accurate SAA I have ever owned.....including Colt's of any generation and some truly amazing USFA guns.

More recently after years of wanting a 2nd Cimarron Scout I had another one delivered to my FFL.

Even more impressed with the gun now than when I received the first one a few years ago.  Just as accurate as the first and shoots almost perfectly to point of aim as well.  Amazing guns and an incredible buy for the money IMO.

Sure it is a Uberti inside, but it is (both guns are) one, if not the best, out of the box 6 gun I have owned and shot.

Pretty hard to beat the current Ubertis/Cimarrons for value I think.  And at 25% of the cost of a Colt or a USFA at the daily retail ...no question which one I want to be shooting.  YMMV

I too have an old Cimarron Uberti I have had for years and it shoots better than a couple of the third generation Colts I once owned but I don't think it out shoots the USFA's I shoot. It however comes very close to shooting as well. I paid less the $300 wholesale for it years ago when I purchased it and nothing has ever broken on it either.

To be fair I have had a few Ubertis/Cimarron guns.  Most did not shoot POA or shoot all that well.  The USFA guns generally shoot exceptionally well and  the majority I have owned shot to POA.

My original 7.5" Cimarron Scout is just an outstanding SAA.  No all, from any one company are in my experience.

I have a Colt, a USFA, and a Uberti Cimarron. The Colt is a 1978 era New Frontier 7 1/2' .44 Special, the USFA is a 2009 (USA?) 4 3/4" Single Action .44 Spl. and the Cimarron is a Bisley 4  3/4" .44 Spl.  I shoot all three, and while I'm not an accomplished revolver shooter, the Cimarron Bisley seems to be the best at shooting to my POA.  The USFA definitely shoots to the left, and the Colt has adjustable sights.

That is a really nice looking Bisley!

I've also got all three guns - a pair of Colt first gen Artillery's, 2 USFA 4-3/4 in 44-40 and one 45 Colt, and various Uberti's over the years.  I acquired my present Uberti's a couple of months ago in the hard to find 32-30.  I was lucky and snagged a pair that someone had ordered and then not purchased from Texas Jack's.

I took the Uberti's to a local gunsmith and he tuned them up beautifully and hardened all the internals during the process.  I had only a few rounds of ammo to test fire, but so far am impressed with them.  My loading components should be here this week.  I have to say that these Uberti's are much prettier than earlier ones I've owned - really very attractive.  And the 32-20 is fun to shoot.  Plenty of smoke with BP but very mild.  My version of a gamer cartridge!  ;D

Neat stuff guys!  Love the 32-20 here.

Change of topic but was shooting a Cimarron 32-20 1873 @ our "center fire-pistol caliber rifle" range qualifications yesterday.  Big fun hitting a 200 yard gong with that one : )  Smallest caliber ever qualified on that one and no skipping the rounds in off the grass, thank goodness.   Shooting my 32-20 six gun loads too so they were only doing about 900fps.  I have some rifle only that will almost double that.

I have an old Colt Lightning Rifle that I'm resurrecting (hopefully) that should be a great companion piece to the revolvers. I had to have a local gunsmith make a couple of screws and a pin, and now all I need is a free day to put it back together. Those will be my BP equivalent of "gamer" guns......😀

Sounds like a really fun combo.  Pictures?

Let me get the Lightning back together - maybe this weekend.  My travel schedule for work seriously interferes with doing the things that keep me (relatively) sane.  ;)

Yahoody,

Check the Colt Forum for photos of the Lightning.

You know, I love shooters as well.  And I like them just to go pull them out of my gun safe, oil them and look at them, as well as shoot them.  I have been lucky enough to have a few Colts', and a couple of USFA as well.  (and if you really feel the balance, esp if you twirl one of them (or two), you'll like the Colts/USFA a little better on that feel in your hand),

But, the Cimarron Uberti's I would have to agree are great guns. and

And I truly enjoy owning and shooting them.
