Got to go to Ft Sill, OK this week and they have a museum on base. This is the fort where Geronimo was held. Much of the museum was closed today but the Cavalry Barracks was open and inside I found a full rack of Spenders and in the Jail where Geronimo was held I saw boxes of cartridges on the shelf. The pictures are behind glass but thought you might like to see them...

Sgt Scott, went thru there 'bout 25 years ago my own self, items weren't behind glass then and after talking to one of the "troopers" he let me handle one of the Spencers. Marvelous condition for their age at the time. After returning to my base in Wichita, I sat one evening chatting with our supply liason and we ran some inquiries thru the supply system. Turns out we could find federal stock numbers for the Colt SAA, the Remington New Model Army, the Spencer, the Trapdoor, and a host of more modern (WWI) rifles. Amazing that the FSNs existed for some of the equipment at all, but all of them showed in stock, not many of some of them, but a couple of them had hundreds of examples available. Wished I'd been able to order them, but figured I didn't need the OSI investigating why a tanker squadron was ordering Civil War revolvers. ;D
