I recently purchased an original 1860 Spencer Carbine serial number 29589. Does anyone have any information on this carbine? Thanks,

Jeff Dunwoody

Hi Cal,
Busy time of year with n-ssa shoots.  I am sure one of the Springfield records holders will do a quick check for you.  Is this a Spencer produced carbine or a burnside contracted one?  Can you post pictures?

According to Springfield Research the serial no. of your gun 29589 is not specifically listed but the 2 closest guns shown are 29574  issued to the 6th Illinois Cav. and 29598 with was issued to the 6th Indiana , both were issued in the summer of 64. So I`d say the odds are that it was issued to one of those 2 regiments.

It's an original 1860 spencer contract carbine, not a burnside. I've tried to post pictures but when I click the icon it says I'm and won't let me select a photo.

I'm a bit late with my offering, but the closest serial # I found to your #29589 is #29598, a Spencer Carbine issued to Company G, 6th Indiana Volunteer Cavalry on July 13, 1864.

Hope this helps,
