This is not an NCOWS shoot, but it is loads of fun.   I am thinking of putting an article in the Shootist about these events if they will take it.  This is a fund raiser for the Friends of the James Farm, a not-for profit group who is working to promote the farm.

We do three shoots a year.  This year they are April 11, June 20 and September 12.  Round count is ~42.

Too much coffee?   That is like a girl too pretty, just impossible.   I had 4 espressos this morning, and just finishing a pot.  Probably have a few cups this afternoon.   I will get to bed around 4:00 a.m tomorrow morning and then back up at 5:20 for more espresso.   ;D

I thought that I did not get much sleep at night, but you have me beat. You have me beat on the amount of Cawffee consumed. I don't do Expressos, only plain black Cawffee, about 4-6 cups away.

Mo the Shootist is always looking for articles.  An article about the James Farm would fit right in.

Me and another pard will be rolling in Friday afternoon/evening. We sure hope the weather is good. Lot of rain been falling in the central part of Illinois. See you all Saturday morning. Looking forward to the shoot and seeing the farm.

Just wondering if you guys enforce a 170 or 180 degree rule?

Mogorilla

Hey Olered, weather is looking to be sunny and warm.  We have water to help keep hydrated.

RDstrain, we like to see about a 130 degree rule  (Our berm only covers so much).  it is not a NCOWS shoot so it is a bit different.  We put 6 to 8 guys on the line, we have a range officer who watches, and we all police ourselves as well.   Our berm is about 10 feet high, so we want the guns to stay level or below.   We also ask to keep side to side a minimum.   I have shot for years there and can only think of a few instances where safety rules were not followed.  No one was hurt and in one instance, the individual was asked to leave.  Primarily the main ones I remember were new shooters who in lack of experience got flustered and made a mistake.  They were told and adjusted accordingly and pleasantly.    The individual asked to leave was an accident waiting to happen.   Not only did he not think he was doing anything wrong, he got belligerent about it.  He has not returned since.     We have several members of the Friends of the Farm that regularly "police" the shooters, especially new ones and the range officer.  We also encourage participants to call out if there is a problem.     Hope that answers your question.

Sunny and warm will be great. :) Weather forecast said 92. Hope it hold off until the shoot is over. Yep hydrate - hydrate- hydrate. My wife is on me all the time. She tells me beer does not count.  ::)

Mogo, yep thanks.  Gonna try for the fall shoot.   Keep reminding us old farts.

Went down to the shoot at the James farm last Saturday. While me and Captain Fred did not win any prize we had a wonderful time. It was a mighty warm day. All the shooters in attendance were the most welcoming group you could ever ask for. Aside from a little good natured "being from Illinois" ribbing from Frank James at lunch we had a great time shooting and touring the farm. If anyone has not been there it is awesome. Already making plans to make the trip for the September shoot. Going to try to get a couple more shooters to come along.
Almost forgot. A special THANKS for those that provided a very plentiful and tasty lunch for all of us.

So glad you guys could make it and enjoyed yourselves.   Shoot in September has been moved to September 19th.

Well the shoot at the James farm is just a month away. Looking forward to going down an enjoying a little southern hospitality. Capt. Fred and myself attended the June shoot and had a real good time. September 19th looks like 4 of us are making the trek from Illinois. Looking forward to it. If time permits we are going to try to get over and see the Arabia river boat that was dug up out the river awhile back. From what I see on the internet alot of items were pretty well preseved and a sight to see.

Mogorilla

That museum is great and worth seeing for sure.   Glad to hear you are coming back.

I am torn due to the coinciding holiday.  For those not in the know, September 19th is:
International Talk Like a Pirate Day  Maybe I will watch that stinker Kirk Douglas movie Scalawag.  It is Treasure Island in the Southwest.

Captain Fred and I are coming the 19th and bringing another cowboy and a cowgirl to shoot. Another cowboy and his cowgirl say they are going to meet us down there Friday night. Looking forward to it and going to try seeing the riverboat on Friday afternoon. The weather is suppose to be nice from what I hear.

Mogorilla

Today the weather is amazing!  I did see the long range and the weekend looks great as well.  The Steamboat Arabia is a must see for 19th century aficionados.
Looking forward to seeing more shooters!   hope I get enough time to fix my clothes.   washed my pants and two of the buttons came out, need to get some more bachelor buttons and then pulled a thread on my suspenders and they came unsewed!

olered

If I can get everyone here to leave on time and of course a couple want to stop at Kleinschmidt's Western Store (that could take a couple hours) we may get to go over and see the Arabia. Get those pants and suspenders fixed, we don't want your pants falling down on the line. :o :o
