I picked up a parts gun(spencer) in .44 Russian.  someone had blowned the bottom out of the chamber.(bad barrel). after several years I found a new 56-50 barrel and it screwed right into the .44 Russian receiver.  the hole in the receiver for the mag. tube wasn't big enough for a 56-50 case to go throught it. I reamed out the receiver and now the 56-50 cases fall through the receiver. I did have to buy a lower block to get a compatable extracter but that does work now. I'm ready to fire the rifle single shot but I'll like get it to feed from the magazine. the bullets jam up coming out of the mag. tube. I need a picture of the upper block of a newer 56-50. that will tell me if I need to grove the top of my firing block(upper block), to let the next round comeout.( I've had several 56-50 spencers and I love them. ) but I'm fresh out of them right now. all I need is a picture, please send a picture  to pm861@sbcglobal.net,,ok,l I'm a real old cowboy shooter.
Thanks Pat

I only have originals, but doesn't the .44 Russian lower block have different geometry than the 56-50?

yes, you right, I tried to use the original lower block and it didn't seem to work so I brought from Taylors a new 56-50 lower block. it's working somewhat but I'm still having problems with loading the chamber from the butt stock. the bullets are just not feeding right. I just picked up a friends orginal 1965 spencer and I'll be checking mine against his tomorrow.

ok, I got the spencer working, a hint from someone on this list said to cut a .45 degree angle on the out side of the rim of the case. I did and it seems to be working fairly well. My .44/56-50 loaded 3 out of 4 rounds from the mag. a minute ago.
