As the proud owner of a Dillon Press, I got my copy in the mail :D .  Several friends also called me up to let me know about this feature article. so Spencers are getting good press at the moment.

I own a Dillon press, but I haven't gotten anything from them in years. They didn't even respond to my emails when my Dillon stopped working and I was trying to get some help.

Not to hijack the thread, but Dillon is very responsive via telephone. I bought a used press via ebay and they helped me over the phone to get it working. I of course had to buy some parts that I was missing. A lot of places are not email friendly or are overwhelmed by spam. Try calling them.

By the time of the Modoc War the Military was already pulling Spencers out of service for replacement by converted Sharps carbines in 50-70 Gov't. The Pawnee Scouts led by Frank North almost mutinied over what they perceived as this insane folly since they stated that the Sioux, Cheyenne & Arapaho were well armed with repeaters.  ::)

Thanks for posting Two Flints. That brings me back to the first time I layed eyes on a Spencer carbine. It was in fact the Indian scout picture featured in the article. In the early 70's I was camping in the Lava Beds Natl. Mon., exploring the ice caves and Capt. Jacks stronghold. Looking through the displays at  park headquarters  I spied that strange looking carbine with the perch belly and Sharps hammer. After researching it, I had to have one. I finally found  a well used, but intact one in Shotgun News. I always dreamed of someday shooting it. Many years later, thanks to the S&S breach block my dream was realizsed and my Spencer, no longer a wall hanger became my favorite shooter.  JW
