Anyone know where I can find a picture of the holster worn by Gus in Lonesome Dove?  I can't recollect what it looked like, if indeed I paid any attention to it.

Check out the Whittliff collection for photos of the original. I had a request for one a while back from a collector that wanted a more correct example than what others were offering. The biggest complaint he had was the coloring and that other offerings did not have the correct shape on the main seam particularly up around the trigger guard.

He sent me some photos and I found what I could online but there isn't much available. I even watched the movie again stopping the film from time to time but even in the movie it's hard to find any great shots of it. The best shot is when Gus is laying in the ditch on his back after getting shot with the arrows. The one thing to note is the original one seems to really curve out in the trigger guard area more than necessary with more recurve under the trigger guard than most reproductions.

I also made one for myself

Heres a link to the rear view of the holster. I can't seem to find the front view at the moment. But you can see the shape of the main seam and the generous cut and curve at the trigger guard in this photo. http://www.thewittliffcollections.txstate.edu/collections/lonesome-dove/film/online-exhibit/art_gunbelt.html

Much obliged! Not sure if the gent that called me will be interested in me making one for him or not.  The gun for which he wants a holster is a '51 Navy, rather than the Dragoon.  Also, as I told him, I can make the holster so the muzzle sticks out, but I don't like them!  If he just wants the look, and doesn't plan to take it out anyplace where he can inadvertantly sit down and wind up with the muzzle getting plugged by mud and sticks, well, alright... But when you've slid down mountainsides on your rear end as I have, you don't want to take the chance of plugging the muzzle. That recurve aroung the bottom of the trigger guard looks like the one I have on my #1880 Ft. Worth.

Anyhow, thanks for the photos!

I made one for the same customer for a 60 Army also.

I don't care for the barrel sticking out either but it was fun making them because of Lonesome Dove. I prefer to have the end of my holsters closed if they are going to be worn or used with much activity. I've worn mine for re enactments but have to really watch the barrel of the gun if you don't want it all scratched up or the muzzle damaged.

Looks good, Cliff. Nice attention to the fine points of the movie holster.
