Interesting. Rare, but it seems surprising that it would go for so much. Is there something about J. P. Lower that makes it so collectible?

J. P. Lower is very big among collectors of single shot rifles.  He was a frontier gunsmith and outfitter of the period and dealer in Sharps and Remington single shots.  For those who collect these guns and accoutrements of the buffalo hunting period, this is a very nice item to have.  However, I too think the price is quite high, especially for a rig that has no associated maker mark.
