Hello SSS,

My 1860 Spencer Carbine Serial# 33451 was issued to the 19th New York volunteer Cavalry as a 52 Caliber (thanks to Two Flints info). It was later (1865-866) sent to Springfield armory and relined to a 50-56. It has  very nice wood and metal with one exception, some one leaned the muzzle into something that absorbed moisture and pitted the starboard side of a few inches or the  exterior of the muzzle end of the barrel (for many years). The 3 groove 50 cal bore is like perfect. The Cartouche in the stock ( by "Erskine Allin") is perfect. I have ordered center fire upper block, contoured follower, and mag spring. I can't wait to shoot it. I am going to slug the bore. It should be accurate with the nice bore.

I have heard of a method called "Splatter welding" to fill pits. I think I should just leave it as it is. Any suggestions?. Here are a few pictures. You all should be "Beholden" to "Two Flints" for the EXCELENT job he does running and responding on this forum.

Here are my Spencer 1860 photos:
