I've been getting tired of shooting paper targets latley, so I came up with a more authentic way to practice shooting like the real  cowboys probably did after returning from the general store with a new Colt. Its basically a version of pin shooting exept your shooting shiny tin cans. Set up 5 cans 1 foot apart on some kind of platform. All shooting is done with one hand from seven yards. You load 5 rounds per cylinder and try to clear the table each round. A hit is one point a miss is zero. 3 rounds total for a par score of 15 points a game. Unlike pin shooting there no time keeping, no reloading during a round, and you can play by yourself. A perfect score is not that hard but you do have to work for it. With 50 rounds you can play 3 games and still have 5 rounds to keep you safe on the way home. I played this game for a couple hours today and only got a 15 once! Of course you could mix it up with longer range, two hands or shoot with a buddy. Anyways I had alot of fun with it and like I said its probably similar to what was done in the old west on a wooden fence. Thanks

Plinking has always been fun for me, you have just come up with a bit more formal way to plink.  ;D ;D

I think most people like to have their targets respond to a hit.   ;D  Instant feed back about how well the shot was fired.

Yea sounds like fun I've seen a couple of westers who had something like that one had 5 bottles each, at go the board was raised to see the targets two seconds later board was dropped to cover targets. the board was raised again to see who had the most broken bottles. I believe it was on gunsmoke

I love shootin' tin cans.  Sounds like a cool way to make it more fun and more of a challenge.  Thanks for the idea.

An other idea is: take 5 corcks, put them on a saté-stick and place them in line on 35 feet distance. Try to shoot them off with a Lever Action gun or revolver. I did it several times and it isn't easy.  Have fun Pards. ;D

Try cutting a playing card in half at 15 feet !!  Put the card on edge on a piece of wood lath.

Hell this is just what we did as kids, plinked all day with slug guns then went a sold papers or cashed in drink bottles to buy more slugs to plink all day tomorrow.
I think that's why there are so many middle age and older pards shooting CAS, we grew up having fun and still want to keep on doin it, that's what CAS is all about, Aint it?
