Hatfield, PvtGreg,
nice shooting, hope to get my 56-50 out for our annual snowshoe shooting match first weekend in Feb. I'll try to post results... it'll be tough to match your groups I'm thinking.
Blair, great write-up. Very interesting  and neat cartridge conversion development. Two Flints thanks for posting it
I am in Herberts camp for my next Spencer. Gathering parts and agree  NM action would be the ideal platform to start with.  Also plan for 56-46 utilizing 32 ga. Brass. Thinking .458 dia. Bore and 1-24 twist . Plan for bullets from457192 ideal mold. Bullets weigh close to 370 grns out of 30/1 alloy. Hoping to get 45 grns 2f under it and still have workable overall cartridge lenth.
My son killed a big bison cow in October with this bullet in his 45-60 Uberti 76 Win. 150+ yards broke both shoulders, bullet recovered in hide on far side.dropped in her tracks. His load was 55 grains of olde eynsford 2f. Figure 45 grs. Would make a durn nice sporting rifle load.
Hatfield sorry to divert this thread, maybe need to start a separate one for this topic....
hope to get to shooting my Spencers soon,
Big Goose
