That's why I buy all my bark/veg tan leather from RJF Leather (old style real pit tanned) with Wickett & Craig  as a close second

Nothing new there.  The main thing about dealing with Tandy for me is I hand select every piece of leather.  I don't live too far from their store, or obviously do much volume.  Often they will have some stuff for sale, and have multiple hides, and maybe one of them will be ok.  I would not have the confidence to order ten sides from them. I know where I would order volume from, but it is over a thousand miles away, and I would have to take their cull.  I hear they are good for it....

Nothing beats hand picking what you buy, even if it requires about an hour's drive.   There is a really decent "warehouse" down in Ramseur NC that is has always stocked premium quality leather.  Check out their website and it's obvious they are far above any retail leather shop or Tandy's.  They're a supplier to those places.  As a mail order outlet, they rank right up with Midway for promptness.  I got my last order in 3 days.  Yeah, they're an hours drive, but the package was postmarked the day I ordered which shows they don't sit on your order.

Last time I looked through their oak tanned shoulders I only got halfway down in one stack before deciding the 2nd one from the top was not just priced at what I had to spend but bigger than I'd hoped to get.  They certainly had quality and selection.   As usual, I wound up buying buckles, brads, stamps and such far beyond the budget for the trip.

The girls who run the retail front are good too.

Spent a lot of money at Zack White. They were without veg tanned leather for a number of months. I have not been down for a while. Need some dye and stuff so a trip will be noted.
