I also, just picked up a ,new to me, 1866 YellowBoy.  It looks real nice next to my 1860 Uberti.  The Yellow Boy will be taken out in the next week or so and be put through it's paces.

The 1866 Winchester/"Yellow Boy" will be produced, in various forms and models from 1866 until 1899 when production ended.
However, quantities of parts remained on hand at Winchester for a number of years later and firearms will still be turned out after 1899, although production had ended.

Fergus - What barrel does yours have? Just curious.

Good luck with your 1866, hope you enjoy it. I'm probably going to jinx myself, but I have five of them that have been used for about 15 years at Cowboy matches with no issues yet. Of course they are rotated (along with a couple Marlin 94's & Uberti 73) for matches so none are extensively used, but that is still a long time of trouble free shooting. I would not like to be without a 66.

Good for you! I was up in the air between the Yellowboy and the 73 to get started in this venture of cowboy shooting and settled for the 73 to start. Will most likely pick up the Yellowboy as my next gun in the collection. Got to LOVE them octagon barrels! Good luck and let us know how it works out for you. D. D. ;D

Thanks! It's great,,and shoots even better. I don't care what folks say about the toggle link action. It works and sounds great! And these look so much better with the octagon barrel!

rbgfishboy,

Mine is a 20 inch octagonal barrel in 45C.  It looks small when sitting next to my 1860.
