Del and GG outdid themselves -- totally-- feeding all of us!  After careful consideration and many choices, I have decided I liked the chicken pot pie best. ;D

Annie, I gotta hit the hay, but I'll PM ya after I recover from three time changes in 5 days and the shoot itself.

It saddens us to report that due to Delmonico's and Gophergrease' skill at keeping mess for the troops in the field, they were kidnapped by Col. Roosevelt's Volunteers and accompanied them to Cuba.

I can see it now... Delmonico preparing a Cuba Libre for Fidel using his castor oil as a substitute for rum! :P

Several people got "The Lecture" for throwing foreign objects into Del's fire.

No one made that mistake twice................

I'll have to do a piece in the Cosie's corner on fire eddy-kit some time. ;D  The forien objects can cause problems, burning plastic that gets on dutch ovens is a big problem, had that broblem on time, a tourist dropped a 48 oz syro-foam cup in our fire.

The other is paper, it can get covered and carbonize, when you uncover it away it flys on fire.  Folks who live in canvas houses hate flying fire. ;D

Del, you are well loved and respected for your wonderful cooking and your drive for authenticity.  You are also well know as a word smith.  I know that this is well deserved.  It is probably difficult for you to do the fire patrol and still keep current with folks.  Would it serve you to put up a socializing fire and a seperate cooking fire.  Might be more trouble than its worth but at least you can have the folks over to chew the fat and not put your bacon at risk.

Its been a long time since I have had a chance to sit a spell with you.  You probably don't remember me but I was In the Fort with my "better half" and bought a pair of boots and other fair from you.  It was a pleasure to talk cowboy with you and to see the elephant that day.

It is a good idea where it is possible.  The old timers brought the wood to the cook and when he had what was needed any other could be used for a bull fire.  The cooks fire was not to warm ones self on except in a life or death situation.    This weekend if there would have been a spot for a second I still would rather have had folks warm around mine or I'd have been watching two fires in a wind when folks went to shoot.

Any fire needs to not be turned into a garbage disposal, or soon the whole camp will smell like a dump fire.

I have heard stories of a cook or two who was known to throw pistol rounds in a fire if one wandered to close.

I wonder if he remembered to pack his red nightshirt? Like Dorothy's slippers, that nightshirt may be his only way to get home.

:D

AnnieLee
Yep, he had it but I didn't get a picture of it.  :-[

I don't know about throwing a live round into the fire, but a dozen or so of those big musket caps will sure cause the crowd to scatter..............
