Anybody make a homemade smokeless bullet lube?  I was thinking about trying Candle Parafin, Crisco, and veg. oil.  Don't know if anybody has tried this or not.  Curious as to your results if you have. ;)

Hell-Er High Water

TT,

Here is a formula that my father developed in the 1960's.  I began using it at that time and have been using it ever since.

The "parts" refered to are by volume, not weight.

2 parts Carnauba wax (available on eBay or from other sources)
2 parts paraffin (the type used for canning)
1 part cup gease

The grease is NOT the modern Lithium type grease, but the old "water pump" grease or "cup" grease.  This is getting harder and harder to find but I find it at garage sales and barn sales in our area.  I don't know if it still available as a new, comercial item any more or not.

Melt all ingrediants in a double boiler or similar arrangement, mix well and pour it into whatever form you want.

I make into hollow cylinders that fit in the lube sizer and it also works fine for pan lubing.

Like most smokeless lubes, this lube does not work well with black powder.

I hope that this is a at least a starting point for you.

     I have used 50% Vaseline and 50% Paraffin ( canning wax ) .

You can vary the percentages to make it harder or softer .

A lot of people will add beeswax or Luberplate grease .  Or both .

But mostly , I am now using Alox and Johnson paste wax , diluted with paint thinner .

     I rarely use the Lube-Sizer .

God bless
