Oiling suede lined belt?

Howdy.  When you build a gun or shell belt lined with suede and you want to oil the belt, what's the trick to oiling the outside (veg tan) without getting oil on the suede side?

oil it before you line it with the sued. Same thing goes with Dye if you are dying it dye and oil before you add the suede.

One thing to add if the suede is already attached to the belt lay the belt out flat on a hard surface, apply the oil to the face of the belt. I use finger tip control to give me the most control over amount and where it is being applied. bye laying it suede side down on a flat surface you are less likely to get oil where you don't want it.
