The pattern for the holster is one I made about four years ago, based on an original in PI by H. Keller of Corpus Christi TX.The tooling pattern is new, based on motifs current at the time.
I made the vest from the Laughing Moon pattern.

Hi Skeeter,

The quality and carving on this Holster are outstanding as usual! Many thanks for sharing this fine piece with us.
You need to learn to like all the little everday things like a sip of good whiskey, a soft bed, a glass of buttermilk,  and a feisty old gentleman like myself

Beautiful work, Skeet. The whole thing is a fine look.

You know, I just realized that you made the vest, too. That's an outstanding one. The two pieces together really pop.

Say, Skeeter, . . . as others have said, . . . ya done good there, . . . both the holster and the vest.

I'm not familiar with the folks you mentioned as far as the vest pattern.

Can you enlighten me ?  My poor old black lambskin vest is approaching social security age for vests, . . . need to replace it, . . . would like to try my hand at making one.

Thanks, may God bless,
Dwight

Dwight, you can google Laughing Moon Patterns. They make a wide range of period clothes and have an excellent reputation for authenticity.
Other than the vest, I've made the 19th century workingman's shirt and the California pants.
Good luck!

Thank you, Skeeter, . . . I'll give em a shot.

We had a big yard sale at the church I pastor, . . . I found a really nice looking piece of dark green satin, . . . will look really great as the inside of a vest (at least I think so).

Just finished up a couple pairs of chaps, . . . having fun as a retired guy.

May God bless,
Dwight

My advice, FWIW, is to make a mock-up vest from canvas (or whatever) to get the fit right. You don't need to include pockets, lining or even buttons. It'll save problems later...

If I ever find a hunk of leather I like that is the right color, . . . THE vest I'd love to have is a copy of Ben Cartwright's vest on Ponderosa.

I'll fiddle with the pockets, . . . they aren't that much of a problem, . . . but like you said, . . . I'll do the mockup.

I actually take my 40 or 50% off one item coupon to Joann Fabric, . . . go back and get a yard of their really heavy cloth backed vinyl, . . . it is super for mockups, . . . imitates leather real good.  That's what I'll use.

May God bless,
Dwight
