When I first took my 1851 Confederate Navy revolver to the range, it worked fine except that the main spring had snapped and fell out when I disassembled the piece.  Now that I have a new spring in, I tried cocking it and the cylinder at first wouldn't move but halfway to the next round.  I took it apart and put it back and now it goes past the next round  ???  I followed the video of how to disassemble and reassemble one of these but the guy glossed over how the parts went back in and more importantly how the springs were supposed to go!  It appears that when the hand pushes up on the cylinder the catch on the bottom isn't coming up in time.  Does anyone have a clear picture of how the trigger and other internals are supposed to look?

Thanks for that.  It appears my main spring is either shaped wrong or is too long.  When I pull the hammer back the hand is pushing the cylinder past where it's supposed to go.  I looked at the spring in my 1860, it has more of a hump back versus the spring I got.  Is there a simple fix for this?

Another new spring??  And, the springs are not necessarily "drop in."  Some will require fitting to prevent dragging on the back of the hammer.
Where did you get your new spring??

I got the wrong part the first time  ::)  I got the spring from VTI.  Yes, it's dragging on the back of the hammer.  Do I put it in a vise and bend it?

Lefty Dude

Never bend a Spring. Take material off the Hammer end, a grinder will help. Take off just enough that the hammer clears in full battery. When grinding a spring do not over-heat the piece, this will remove the temper. Have water handy for a dunk & cool. Hold the spring with your fingers, if while doing the grinding work the spring is to hot to handle, you need to cool the piece.

Lefty, thanks for the tip.  I used a file to remove the material and that worked.  Took half an hour, but now there's no hitch in the hammer pull and the cylinder not over shooting the next round.
