Grips

Has anyone tried making their own grips? I don't like the plastic grips that came with my New Vaquero, but I don't want to pay an arm and a leg for custom grips

It's not that hard ta do. I've done it and had em come out great, just be prepared ta spend a lot of time with fit and finish depending on what ya use for material. If ya don't have the proper equipment it's probably gonna take more time than it's worth. wM1

Making grips is easy enough. Two piece grips start by making two flat slabs with smooth square corner on one end. Remove your grips and drive out the pin at the lower end of the frame. Place one slab with the corner against the frame and with a close fitting drill make a mark threw the pin hole. Do the same for the other side. Drill a blind hole just deep enough to except the pin then put that pin back in the frame and place a slab on one side. If your fit is good make a scribe line around the frame then remove this one and do the other side. You can us the old grips to figure out were to put the screw threw and drill threw both pieces. Do as much shaping as you can off the gun then put them on and use tape to protect the metal and file. sand  and make them feel right. finish as needed.
Solid grips can be done on Colt type frames.
