Does anyone have info on this leather maker? They list a John Wayne rig in Gunbroker. Thanks.

Howdy,I have a book on Johne Wayne,in it, it lists his gun belt maker as John Bianchi, one of his most sought after belts is the Model 100 Duke's Special.Check out www.frontiergunleather.com Feathers

Did you see the prices on that belt....$325.00..is a little high for such a simple gunbelt (unless it includes the holster).

I read somewhere that Bianchi has, at one time, made a holster/belt for the Duke too. A friend has the JW set in Bianchi's Frontier catalog. I was surprised how thin the holster leather was. I was expecting something a little heavier. The belt was very soft suede.  I was going to order one from Bianchi, but this has changed my mind. Buck's e-mailed me and stated he uses 10oz. leather for the holster with a 8oz. lining. Pretty substanial. Many of his holsters and belts are listed on Gunbroker (search under John Wayne). Don't get me wrong: the Bianchi was a nice set. I started using his products when I entered law enforcement in 1977 and did so until I retired.  I just thought his # 100 was beefier.

Buck's Saddlery holsters and belts are made just like the originals used by John Wayne in his movies! I have tried many different makers and none can hold a candle to Buck's Saddlery!!

18 ounces is much too thick for a period holster. For modern quick-draw, though - fair enough.

This is interesting: I started this thread 5 years ago. Anyway, Bucks makes some very nice leather. The Duke style holster is closer to the original than the Bianchi, but Bianchi's web site states it is re-creation of the original. I have both: one for a 4 3/4" (Bucks) and a 5 1/2" (Bianchi). I am pleased with both of them.
