Shotgun Belt

Here is a Shotgun Belt I just finished for myself. It holds eighteen shells. The loops are made out of Cotton webbing. I wrapped two layers  of masking tape around the shells and tried to keep the tension just right while weaving the loops. The shells (less the tape) seem to fit decent and are easy to pull out. I notched the top of the belt so the shells are easy to grasp. No Walnut Dye for this one, just three coats of Neets and two coats of Skidmores. I didn't want to get the loops wet.

I'll give her a try this weekend. One of the stages is an "all Shotgun" stage and uses eight plus shells.

Johnny nice looking belt. Good job. Let us know how it worked out . KT

Looks good, Johnny. With the cut down back, it should be easy to go fast. Nice work.

Many thanks for the kind words Gents.

I should have made the retaining strip at the base of the loops a bit thicker. While practicing pulling shells out I found some of the shells would drop below the bottom of the loops. I cut the brass heads off some empty hulls and epoxied them in the bottom of the loops. Seems to work.

Howdy Johnny,

Actually I like the look of the brass heads at the bottom. Different.

Used the new Shotgun Belt today and it worked just fine. I Had to re-train myself where to reach for the shells as I was using a Slide on my Pistol belt previously. Fortunately the "All Shotgun Stage" was last and I had it down pat by then.

After all of these years I just figured out how to add pictures using Photobucket. Below are some pictures I took several years ago of a mock-up of the loop weaving process I use. After I weave a loop through the slot and get the proper tension, I put some contact cement on the space between loops before weaving the next loop. This sort of locks in the proper tension. I also put a spot of Epoxy between sets of loops to keep them in groups of two. Below is a sketch of this.

Nice belt and good tutorial.

Thanks adding for the drawing of how you did it, Johnny. That makes it clear and easy to understand. :D
