I bought a very rare Pietta Dragoon 3rd model.  Smiley Now I think I know what your going to say, "Pietta doesn't make a Colt Dragoon", but they actually did at one time for private order and some for sale in Italy. I have Black Powder Specialty Store in my area that carries mostly antique firearms and does restoration work also, but he does carry some replicas if they are rare.
I called him and he had a 1980's Pietta Colt Dragoon that was made for private sale only. The quality is amazing, the action very good and I really like the attention to detail.
I like to carry my big ole Colt Dragoon just in case I need to whack a surly bartender and my S&W Schofield in case some cowpoke slights a ladies honor.

Way cool.  What are the markings on it? When was it made?  Inquiring minds want to know.  Some better/bigger pictures would help too.

Here is a picture of the makers mark and stamping. Sorry for the quality, I only have a cell phone camera, so it doesn't take close up pictures well. It has the Pietta stamp, AN in a square for 1985,  also the shield of arms that I think means Italy and the serial No., all stamped on many parts.

I can't seem to get the pictures to post bigger, sorry.

Well, I can't see anything in detail with those microscopic photos.  ???

OK, where is the Pietta stamp?  Only see SN, date code, Gardone proof and Blackpowder proof stamped on the frame in the picture.
Pietta stamp is a stylized FAP or an FAP inside a diamond.  I'm beginning to think your 'Blackpowder Specialty Store' guy is mistaken.  It makes no sense for Pietta to make a one of a kind revolver for private sale that has nothing in common with their production guns.  Every part of a Dragoon is bigger than anything else they make and would require totally new machining and fabrication.  And, the serial number on a limited edition, private sale gun would conceivably be different than a normal production run SN.

Yep.  I got an email from him in May.  I had emailed him explaining why the pictures he posted were not of a Pietta.  He responded with a thank you.
