Whilst casting about in a fit of boredom on the day job taking a break, I thought to look for images of the delightfully odd "Omnipotent" that was actually made (for a brief moment) by the (now defunct) USFA .  Imagine my surprise to find this thread:

http://www.cascity.com/forumhall/index.php?PHPSESSID=2331jt50vpo8hmcs41jlroknr5&topic=1731.0

discussing it's approval in SASS. But the fun thing was the brief allusion to "Hannie Caulder's revolver" ... and so I was off ....

rather than participate in thread necromancy I thought to open a new thread to discuss this oddity:

Hannie Caulder's revolver is actually a factory percussion English Tranter "self-cocking revolver" in ~ .42 caliber
which was converted to cartridge. The "Lower trigger" cocks it, and allows the "upper trigger" inside the trigger guard to fire it.

here is a Tranter Percussion: http://www.imfdb.org/wiki/File:Tranterdualtrigger.jpg

and one fellow in Argentina owns one and got it shooting!

I love those action pictures on both imfdb references 8)

Although one often sees these old British revolvers without a hammer spur, indicating that they were double action only, many of them were configured to fire in either single or double action mode.  This is another Tranter percussion revolver -

Rattlesnake Jack Robson, Scout, Rocky Mountain Rangers, North West Canada, 1885
Major John M. Robson, Royal Scots of Canada, 1883-1901
Sgt. John Robson, Queen's Own Rifles of Canada, 1885
Bvt. Col, Commanding International Dept. and Div.  of Canada, Grand Army of the Frontier

Blair

I have collected a number of English and European made copies of English revolvers designs.
Most, are Double Action (DA). This is because Sam Colt got Patten rights set up very early for Single Action (SA) revolvers pretty early in the production of most foreign Countries.
This is, indeed, a very interesting area of study. Not just for the Commonwealth Countries, but for the USA as well.

Ah My Dear Sir Charles -
Good old Raquel... yes, there is enough exposed derma to require dark glasses! As my FIL used to say, I may be married, but I'm not Dead!

As Jack and Blair pointed out, it was a period of Invention and there are so many intriguing English and Contintental revolvers out there..
