Marlin 1894 38-40 project

Just picked up a Marlin 1894 Carbine in 38-40. It was made in 1899...and it's parkerized - which I am doubting is an originally offered finish.
How were these originally finished? I've got a line on how to remove the parkerizing but need a better idea on what then...LOL
Thanks in advance for ideas and suggestions.

I believe the barrel should be blued and the receiver color case hardened, unless the barrel says for blackpowder use only then the receiver was likely originally blued. The lever, and hammer should be CCH also.
Those are great old rifles. Good luck with your project.

Thanks!
What I have found so far is the rifles were CCH while the carbines were blued...but that could be incorrect.
Makes it easier for me (and my budget) but I do like the look of the CCH.

You're correct about that. I just checked the Brophy book and confirmed the carbine receivers were blued. Sorry for the incorrect information.

Were it mine and would that I could afford it, carbine or not, the receiver would go to Turnbull for CCH along with the lever and breach block.
With the wood refinished, it'd be stunning.
