Would a holster designed for a .45 colt 1875 remmington with a 7 1/2 inch barrel work with the uberti 1858 45 colt cartridge conversion with a 8 inch barrel ?

Camano Ridge

What style holster is it. If it is a slimm Jim because of the ejector rod on the conversion the holster might be a little snug along the barrel. As to length, if the holster just covers the 7 1/5" barrel then your 8' might be right at the end of the holster or protrude a little, depending on how long the holster is.  SOme holsters fit multiple revolvers better then others, just depends on style and how they were made. You may have to take a hammer handle and push and roud the barrel end of the holster out a little to accept the convesion. Are you looking a t a holster that you don't have the ability to try with your conversion before you buy it?

I have a 1875 remmington and will need to get a holster for action shooting. I like the looks of the 1858 conversion and was planning on buying one. It would be nice if they were interchangeable.

After looking at the two revolvers a little closer and comnparing specs it apears that if a holster fits one it will fit the other. The only difference being the barrel length. The conversion does not seem to change the specs from the original 1858 non conversion.

Remington Model 1875 Single Action Army {a.k.a. Improved Army or Frontier Army)[2] was a revolver by the E. Remington & Sons. It was a based upon the successful Remington Model 1858 with both revolvers having the same size, appearance, and the removable cylinder. The new 1875 Remington differed mainly from the older 1858 percussion model by having a bored through cylinder chambered for metallic cartridges. Thus, in 1875, Remington entered the cartridge revolver market with this big-frame, army style revolver, intended to compete with the Colt Peacemaker. Ordinary citizens and Old West lawmen alike recognized the sturdy quality of the new Remington revolvers.[3]

If it's long enough it will fit.

I've had both the Uberti 1875 and 1858 Remingtons. They both are similar although the 1875 takes a little more molding to fit the piece properly. You can make the same holster fit either one unless it's a really tight fit. A holster molded for the 1858 will not fit the 1875 without more wet molding due to the ejector assembly.

Ya I have both and the holsters will work with either frame
whatever your 58 will fit the 75 will fit also provided the barrel length is the same.
the 1858 frame and 1875 frame are nearly identical in size and shape.

If a holster is form fitted for a 58 and doesn't have the room for the ejector rod it WILL NOT necessarily work for the 75. The one for a 75 WILL work for both provided it will accommodate the barrel length.

To say the same holster will automatically work both ways is very misleading. Read what Marshal said about the ejector rod, he is spot on.

Dusty Earl:

If you have not yet purchased the holsters, can't you ask the purveyor if they have a mock up of that pieve to try in it for you?  Are these being made for you?  If so, the leatherworker should be able to accomodate you.
