I have noticed that there is a great deal of Ramshot Competition shotgun powder on the market. It is supposed to be comparable to Clays. Has anyone used this powder? If so, what do you think of it? I expressly load 12 guage WAA low recoil with 7/8ths oz lead shot for cowboy action. W. L.

Yeah, Midway just started advertising it in stock.   It is drop shipped from the factory, btw, and factory shipping is $10. (Still has HazMat)

It is listed as being about the same speed as Solo 1000, another shotgun powder that's used for Cowboy type loads.  The Solo 1000 proved to be excellent for the calibers I worked up loads for over the years.  I've been keeping an eye out for the last couple of years and seen zero of it, so am about to try the Competition as soon as yesterday's order gets here.

The Accurate website data sheet shows plenty of recipes for the Ramshot powders in cartridges.  It does seem to be very similar.  Time will tell.  Until then, let's hope somebody who has used it speaks up.

One attractive bit of advertising about it is the emphasis on how clean burning it is.  It appears to be a flake shape ball powder.  Hopefully it is Western Powder's attempt to produce a Solo1000 clone made here in the US.

Interestingly enough, Midway doesn't show it as in stock any more.   It took 2 weeks to sell out apparently.

Guess it is somewhat popular.    Hope it doesn't take another 2 weeks before they ship it.
