Watching 'Lonesome Dove' needs to be part of reading 'Lonesome Dove'. You just can't cram the whole book into a series. By combining the two you appreciate the series much more.

I am sure you do, but movies have to stand on their own merit. They are terrific characters, clearly a lot of backstory was there, and think how much more enjoyable had the series been 2-3 episodes longer?
