 I just read a articale about a feller who found a 72 peace maker and stamped on the barrel".45 colt july 12 1872"----????? Please enlighten one(me) of limited knowledge.

July 2, 1972 is one of the patent dates on the frame of the SAA.  Also Sept. 19, 1871.  Some also have Jan. 19, 1875.  Do a Google image search.

Presumably a Model 1873 SAA -



As already noted, patent dates on a SAA should be on the frame, not the barrel ...
