If I were to nit pick , then the hardware is 20th century , the flip/snap closer is about 1920's the body obviously Plywood.

here are few ideas , hardware is iron

or an old Well fargo strong box
when planets align...do the deal !

St. George

Excellent choices - as would be a carpet bag.

Surveying instruments were very often carried in well made wooden boxes with excellent hardware and finger jointed corners. Searches on ebay for 'vintage surveying equipment' will yield some very interesting boxes.

I had one of his Indian Wars ammo boxes. I felt they were very reasonable. It was marked for Leavenworth Arsenal, 1865.

He offers some Seaman's chests that are beautiful, but pricey.

Many of the CW Sutlers offer ammo boxes. Just add hinges.
