And dug this today. Pretty corroded but was hoping for a serial number and ID help. Knew this was the place to come.

The flat piece is broken off inside the grip. I assume the screw is for the grips.

 Looks like a Remington New Model Army to me. What a really neat find!

The screw even matches!
