Got the Uberti snubbie back from a Kirst conversion and barrel shortening. The barrel was also cut for a standard 3/8" dovetail, contoured and reblued. When they say Schofield, they mean it. My 45 Cowboy brass won't fit. You have to eject with a stick or a cleaning rod of course. Still need to refinish the grips in oil and/or exchange for a smaller 1849 grip. The front sight is a Track of the Wolf item. Very cool gun.

Cool, but...won't that front sight tend to snag? looks kind of sharp...

Fredcdobbs

It is. Things will change, I've not had a chance to get it dialed in. also have spares. Can't wait. heh.

It has a bigger diameter rim than the 45 Cowboy. The whole thing is designed so tightly that Schofield just makes all the clearances. Oh well. Nothing wrong with Schofield. Luckily, I have some loaded.

Slowhand Bob

The rim size will not matter since you are already sized for the larger.  The Cowboy 45 allows what I consider an excellent load capacity for the black powder loads using a light bullet, but price and availability are not always your friend.  I guess the good thing is that both interchange just fine and you get to pick and choose, even to the point of having the cylinder loaded with both at the same time!

Must have been tired or not thinking. I rechecked the round fit and the 45 Cowboy brass fits fine. Should have remembered from shooting Schofield in the past that the rim is actually larger diameter than a Colt and 45 Cowboy has 45 Colt rim diameter.
Duh.

Really nice gun.  I'm partial to short barrels anyway.  Never met a barrel too short.
Which Track of The Wolf front sight are you unsung???
Some times my shooting partners think my alias should have been "Hacksaw." :o

Like um short

Thanks, Here you go. They make em in brass and steel. Saves a lot of time. standard 3/8" dovetail. j

I shot it at the indoor range for fifty rounds just to check it out. The wedge is too tight. Zero cylinder clearance. I need to put a cylinder pin button in and fix the cylinder clearance. Once the wedge was knocked out a bit all went well. Put a little drift on the front sight to line it up and it shot centered about 4-5 inches low at 7 yards. I'll file down that front sight  a tad to get it on board the bull.
Good news it's accurate. Two inches at 7 yards in a dark indoor range. I can probably do better outdoors as two retinal surgeries make my eyes not function well in low light. I now shoot left handed with my right eye. Do what you can.
It likes Cowboy 45 brass best ( Over Schofield) and a 160 grain RNFP over the 150 grain semi wad meant for 45 autos. The charge was light. 3.5 to 4.0 grains of Red Dot. CAS loads. Fun gun.
Unloading was no big deal. I used a cleaning rod at first but then picked up on the fact that I could just shake the Cowboy 45s out of the cylinders.
It's not exactly smooth to shoot but then it's a historical hommage piece and just plain fun to own and shoot.

Just wondered who did the install?

I always set them up so that when the wedge is pushed in until the spring tab just pops out the other side the cylinder gap is correct. The latest batch of Kirst cylinders are about 15 thou too long and this requires shortening the barrel at the cylinder end or shortening the cylinder for correct functioning.

Very cool snub.  Good idea on the front sight.

I have 1851/1861 round brass (or square if you prefer) triggerguard, backstrap, grip, & a spare brass backstrap you could use to have engraved if you would like to trade for your 1860 grip, gripframe, triggerguard.

pm me for details if you're interested.

I shifted grips around and put the 1861 blued grip on the Snub. The smaller size looks better. The 1860 Army grip looks right at home on the 1861 because of the close resemblance to the 1860 Army.
The Conversion was done by Kirst and his gunsmith also did a nice job on the barrel. Shortened, dovetail, lettering removed, contoured and reblued.

The wedge looks set correct in these pictures....................did setting it like this fix your cylinder end gap issue?

Close. It shoots but I need to either adjust the wedge a tad or put a permanent stop button in the end of the cylinder pin. I've done it on all my Ubertis and it fixes the problem nicely. Besides it gives me something to do.
