HI,

Should you successfully get the hole(S) drilled for the grips, I think I would soak the interior sides at least 1/4" away from the hole with epoxy ... to stop and little cracks from becoming big ones ...
My moniker is my great grandfather's name. He served with the 2nd Florida Mounted Regiment in the Civil War. Afterward, he came home, packed his wife into a wagon, and was one of the first NorteAmericanos on the Frio River southwest of San Antonio ..... Kinda where present day Dilley is ...

If for a Colt style, I would make them once piece type with a spacer in the middle.
Just too nice to drill.

Perhaps the photo is deceiving, but are they not one piece with a spacer in the middle ?

Appears they have a spacer laminated in between, think I'm gonna leave 'em as-is  ;D
