Has anyone fitted an S&S or Buffalo Arms block to an 1867 Spencer? I ask because the top of the original block on my 1867 is quite different to my 1865 block:

The 1867 block on the left has a flat sided groove and does not have the deep central groove for the cartridge guide. The S&S block I fitted to my 1865 was the same shape as the block on the right. I am wondering, if I manage to get my hands on a new block, whether I will get feed problems because of the different shape.

Perry,

Can you post photos of the two different cartridge guides? They maybe interchangeable but am not quite sure without photos.

I believe you will need to use the guide for the 1860 or 1865 model if you use S&S block. Or, modify the S&S block to fit the cartridge guide for the 1867 Model. Changing the guide maybe easiest if they will interchange.

The S&S or BACO block will work ,though the cartridge guide cutt-off will sit slitly higher when the action is closed. If the cartridge guide will not let you close the action because of the cartridge guide will not lift enough it is a simple job to grind the groove with a dremel to match the original
