For those looking for light weight 45 Cal black powder bullets that work, please take a good long look at the EPP-UG 45-150 and the 45SLIM offerings.  Both offer soft recoil with great accuracy from 45 Colt loads.  The also do a fine job when loaded in the Cowboy 45 Special brass.  Many good casters offer these bullets and the molds are available for prompt delivery.

I used those with great success. Them and the 45 special brass is a combo that cannot be beat !!

I've shot several thousand 160 grain RNFP and 150-5 45 Acp semi wads in 45 Auto Rim brass shooting CAS. Loved them. I believe the 45 Auto Rim has just about the same volume as 45 Cowboy which I have on order.
I had a Ruger Vaquero with a Howell conversion and used to shoot full size 45 Colt brass with the little 160 RNFP and was the most accurate of approximately ten RVs I've owned over the years. .

DD, does the EPP-UG 45-150 carry enough lube for a 24" barrel(Marlin), feed OK and what's the go with crimp on the .45 Colt?

MM,
I'm not DD nor dis I stay in a Holiday Inn Express, but while the EPP-UG may work in a tubular magazine, there are some problems.  There is no actual crimp groove.  Because of that, you'll have instances of "turtles."  Smooth feeding is also not assured.  There are better choices.

Properly loaded with a compressed charge of black powder, genuine powder, the one true gun powder, Holy Black, the EPP-UG bullet is supported by the powder charge and does not turn turtle.  Only heathen fad smokeyless powder charges that do not support the bullet need be concerned about turtleing.  Since this is a black powder bullet from the git-go, your observation is mute.

I shoot this bullet in Cowboy 45 Special cartridges as well as cap and ball guns and it does perform very well, never "turtles" and is very light recoil as well as very accurate.  I have a number of clean matches this year shooting the EPP-UG bullets.  There is, however, some concern when loading it in 45 Colt brass.  A compressed charge of FFFg black powder can push the light 150 grain bullet over the SASS maximum velocity.

DD,
Pardon  Monseur.  I must admit,I was thinking of that Heathen smokeless propellant.  A thousand pardons ...... and ...... Oops.  You are quite correct.  Loaded on top of the true powder, Turtling is not an issue.  Loaded in the C45S with BP it's performance is tereffic.

I also had incredibly good  performance with AJs Barnstormer 45.  Most excellent indeed.  Just wish someone would pick up that bullet since AJ gave up the game.  At 130 Gr as cast, it is most mild indeed as well as suburb lay accurate. (Sigh)

No offense taken.  El Paso Pete aka Larry Johnson, before his too early demise, created the EPP-UG bullet.  The UG stood for Ultra Gamer.  Pete designed the bullet as a prank.  He loved to tease Lars on another wire.  Actually, the bullet emulates round ball performance, is about as long as it is wide, weighs only 150 grains and hauls it's own lube.  Well, the bullet proved very accurate and is now being used in rifles, I added the flat nose, air rifles, muzzle loading rifles and c&b pistols.  This versatile little bullet out to 100 yards.  I've shot very good groups with my Thompson Center Seneca 45 Cal front stuffer rifle.

So, this is a little bullet that can and does work very well in SASS shooting.

I wonder how they would shoot in 45 Cowboy brass. Length is the same as a 45 ACP. Here next to a Schofied round.

.45 Cowboy brass has the same internal volume as .45 ACP.  The EPP-UG works well from ANY case.

PS:  Be very careful with light bullets in big cases.  Very easy to EXCEED allowable velocity.

My favorite Big Lube®LLC bullet for the Cowboy 45 Special is the J/P 45-200.  Yes, it's a mite heavier than the EPP-UG, but it really feeds well.

I know the purist will not want to hear this , however. 18 to 20 gr of the true powder and fill case to the  end with grits  then seat the little bullet in a 45 colt brass. This will keep the fps down but still have enough power to get er done and prevent the boolit from setting back.
Some one I know pretty well uses grits in all bp rounds. (me) LOL.
I shoot 44/40 rifle  after selling my 73 in 45 to get me a clays gun . Use 45 special or schofield in pistol when shooting cartridge. C&B is my love though !!!!!!!!!!!!  ;D ;D
