Is it as simple as ordering a 3 inch and swapping screws with my 7 inch and back if desired?

Trailrider

Generally, no. It might take some fitting of the latch on the new barrel to the lug, just because of manufacturing tolerances. You might get lucky, of course. But I'd suggest ordering an additional spare latch so you might be able to fit the latch to the lug without altering the lug. You might have to swap latches when you swap barrels. A competant gunsmith should be able to do the job. Best of luck.

I changed my 5" Uberti Schofield to a 7".  In my case it was a direct swap-out and worked perfectly.  Trailrider is correct that I was probably lucky.  In any event if you are decent home 'smith it will probably be a pretty simple fitting job if you have a latch problem.

If you have a revolversmith do it for you it will likely be an inexpensive job.

Good luck with it.

My only experience is with the .45 Colt variation.
It is my experience that theses barrels swap out pretty easily.
However, I would suggest you order the top/barrel latch with screws  already installed to the new barrel. This way if some fitting is required, it would make changing to the new barrel and top/barrel latch to fit the frame/latch on the original Uberti Schofield, safer and stronger.

I used to own a 44-40 Uberti schofield that came with a 5 inch barrel. Swapped it with a 7 incher and had no fitting problems at all.

I might have an interest in a project like this myself.  Where are folks obtaining the extra barrels?
