Bullet mold for 45 Schofield?

Howdy folks!

New member Ed here. I have a 45 Schofield carbine and I was wondering what bullet fellow Schofield shooters are using? Preferably a mold.

I cast my own bullets and am currently using 777 powder. The rifle seems to like it.

That said, I'm having what looks like a pretty common problem with mine: failure to feed correctly. When trying to chamber a round, the breechblock frequently hangs up on the next round.

I've read a few posts about it and have come to the conclusion that my first and second inclinations are probably correct: cartridge OAL and bullet shape. I will also try rounding off the sharp edge of the upper breechblock.

You have probably done this, but check your LOA ... I shot .45 Schofield in my '73 Winchester/Uberti >The ONLY problem I ever had was rounds ending up under the 'riser' and jamming the gun ....

They fire fine in a Schofield pistol ... which is how I used up my short rounds ... The guy who does my reloading is now onto it and checks every shell for minimum length  ...

Yep, I have tried adjusting OAL from nominal (1.450", according to the reloading manuals) to 0.050" longer and 0.050" shorter. If anything, longer or shorter made the feeding problems worse. This is using modern FN bullets.

After looking at pictures of original Spencer ammo, I've noticed the bullets are all pretty pointed and are tapered more narrow than usually seen today. This shape (along with longer OAL) would move the next cartridge in line back farther and allow more room for the breechblock to grab the cartridge rim without catching on the next bullet.

I tried the RN bullet mold from Lee, but that wasn't enough of a change to work any better. There wasn't enough room around the bullet for the breechblock to grab the cartridge rim without interfering with the one behind it.

So my question is: "45 Schofield shooters: what bullet and OAL work for you?"
