Just wondering if this is an approved firearm, and if so can it be used as a main match rifle or only side matches, I saw the 1886 in 45-70 was approved so wasn't sure

I don't believe it nor the 1886 can be used in a main match, but could be used in some of the long range side matches.

Have to use a "pistol caliber" rifle for the main portion of a match, so cannot use in main match, just for side shoots such as long range shoots and other special events.

The 1876 Winchester Repro from Cimarron/Uberti is an approved firearm.  As the other folks have stated it cannot be used as a main match rifle.  45-75 would make for some sevier dents in most clubs targets.

I know you are asking about NCOWS, but if there are any SASS clubs near you that offer Cody/Dixon, you can shoot the '76 in the main match in that category.  I'm not sure how common Cody/Dixon is around the country.  The Plum Creek Shooting Society in Lockhart, TX has it:

Thanks for the replies, I will have to get down there when I get the rifle, couldn't find a 45-75, but found a beautiful Chaparral in 40-60 with a 28 inch barrel at Cabela's, can't beat 12 rounds of 40-60, can't wait to use it on hog this fall and winter too

Chaparrals don't have a real good reputation:http://sassnet.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=196842&hl=chapparel#entry2543691

Cabela's tends to get full price for a Chappie.  You can get one for 700.00 on Gunbroker, new in the box.  that 300 you save can fix a few problems with the gun if there are any.

Personally I am staying away from them.

.45-75 for 730.00

Uberti .45-60 for under a grand:

You were right on price Bob, I cancelled my layaway at Cabela's and bought a brand new NWMP model in 45-75, with shipping and handling only $715, Cabela's wanted $1,150 + tax for a used rifle, I love the shorter barrel and saddle ring, will look great on trailrides

Outstanding!  I hate seeing a guy get gouged for no reason.

Man I hope you love it.  All the best,

I just got my new customized Cimarron 1876 Rifle.  40-60 WCF.  Upgraded fancy walnut with checkering and hand rubbed oil finish.  Special Serial Number OKTOM9.  Now if I can just find the time to go shoot it.

The next one will be in 45-75, and will have a blued receiver and side plates.
