An other DUKE's rig, in the movie "El Dorado" (1966)
holster always on "backward rake"
leather tan full plunged and not coloured 3/3,5mm, plant tanning
rig lined in "calfskin" full  flower

on the picture , at the top, one of the oldwest originals of the movie "Hondo" (1953), where John WAYNE
already used his "half breed"

the cartridge belt , completly doubled, at the request of the customer, because on the original, it's not doubled
with a bullet of 45/70, in the middle, in John WAYNE's habit, to know where he is in its number of cartridges (in homage to the american cavalry)

details of the sewings hand of the billet of buckle

the regulation of the billet is made with a lace, the tie of which is on the internal face, not to trouble the user

That is a great looking rig, one of the rigs that the Duke wore that you don't see very often.  I really like it.
"I have, in my day, thieved cattle, your lordship. But none that were under my watch" ("Is that what passes for honor with a MacGregor", Earl of Montrose), "What passes for honor with me, is likely not the same as with your Lordship, when my word is given, it is good"

Slye, quick question for you.  How are you securing the billet behind the belt?  I see how you have the lace run through, but I am wondering about the back and how you tie or otherwise secure?  A photo would be great if you happen to have one.  I have just gotten started on the holsters and what to make the same belt you have.  I can only hope mine looks half as good as yours.

Thanks at all

Long juan,
I'm secure my string knot for the billet , on the back of the cartridge belt.
also we haven't a knot outside, that it 's can trouble the shooter to handing at .....
on the back side, we have a "blood knot", crossing under the other string
also we make a strong knot , because we make it in the water

I haven't a picture of my pattern, but I'll give you one , when I make an other rig in December

thaks for your comments

Thanks for the description of the knot, Slye. I was wondering that myself. I look forward to the photo of it on your next rig.

Slye,

Good lookin' rig. Any chance you can post pic showing the way the lace is knotted on the back the belt, I.e., a pic from the back of the belt?

Thanks, long Juan

Past the beautiful rig, everything is so....so.......neat! I need more room in the shop. How do you accomplish the stitiching so close to the edge and burnish and without touching the suede liner?

One can sew a lot closer with hand sewing than by machine.   I grind the edge if I need to tighten things up.  I  do the lining and outer as one.  I have gone back to hand finishing edges, it seems to go fast enough, and is easy to control.
