Savage Stevens 73Y

  A bit off the general firearms here, but I thought maybe someone could help. I am repairing an older Stevens 73Y 22 for a neighbor to give to his son. The extractor was broken and I got a new one from Gun Parts. Put it in and it bent the hook on the end that snaps over the case head and then of course broke when I tried to straighten it a bit. Got another one from Jack First and same thing happened. Can't see anything that would cause it to bend and then break. Any of you fellow smiths have any experience with this little single shot?
