Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a handsome, and well preserved body; but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming...."WOW!... What a ride!"

Eggman

Well I'm afraid it'll have to be one of the Civil War calibets -- .50 or .56.

If they allow Henry shooters to use .45LC, they should allow Spencer's in that chamber.

Eggman

I don't think the argument will work. 45 long Colt is a lot closer to a .44 rimfire than it is to a .50 or .56 rimfire.

Actually the caliber for the Spencer during the civil war was .52 caliber.  I am not sure if they changed the caliber to .50 during of after the war.  Any body know?

The Model 1860 Spencer rifle and carbine is chambered for the .56-56 cartridge.  According to Wikipedia, the bullet for the 56-56 varied in diameter between .540 and .555 and the 56-50 bullet measured .512.
The 1865 Spencer carbine, chambered for the .56-50, was issued to the troops in April of 1865.  So it did see a little use during the Civil War.
I hope this information helps.

Yes, the .56-50 was developed during 1864.  Did not know the release date.
