Yup, ours are copied from drawings of the targets used for qualifying in the late 1800's, only scaled down.

Yes, sir!  I made the patterns for our targets by scaling down the skirmish targets in the 1885 manual.  Incidentally, ours are half scale.

According to the manual, they were made from canvas or cheese cloth around a metal frame.  They would put pasters over the holes as they shot them up.

Likely out of 20 fired. You didn't earn the sharpshooters cross and that many ladders on that shooting medal without being pretty darned good. That Sharpshooters cross required a minimum 88% at 200, 300, and 600 yds and 76% minimum at 800, 900, and 1000 yds. Besides they wouldn't have wasted the negative on that picture if the target hadn't been pretty impressive.

Jerry and I need to protect our Ruddy complexion when we are out in the sun. I have had to have several removed by lasers, skin cancer ain't no fun.
