Now that would be a Dream come true . Bring my ole rifle and smoke me a big ole Mt. Lion .  I did a little shooting today , the sun  finally decided to shine today . So I slipped out to the range for some shooting .  I shot  pistols and my 73 , wanted to check out my rifle in anticipation of next weeks arrival of the 44wcf ammo . I am ready to test the new powder from Goex hope to get ammo next week . If everything WORKS right that will be the ammo I will be using to Hunt with .

Sound's good Rowdy I want to try some of that new powder in a few calibers when it's avalible. Come on down Cliff they's plenty of room. Down there you gotta realy want to go to town .It's a 48 mile round trip . But takes 2 hrs. there and 2 hrs. back. Heck the last time the Border Patrol stoped by the cabin for a visit. They said we were as far back as they go on ground, after my place it's  patroled by air or the river patrol.  They aint no road after my place ,just Bad Lands and the Wild Rio Grand And that's no joke .....Dusty.     OH, AND YOUR 911 IS ON YOUR HIP OUT YONDER...Dusty

Looks like someplace I'd like, Dusty.....but my wife, not so much ::) We're 8 miles from a small town, and 30-40 minutes from 3 different Wal Marts, she thinks that's too far! Main thing I don't like about my farm is, there's a gravel road through the middle of it, wish I was on a dead end. Come summer there's always teenagers stirring up the dust driving down to the creek to build bonfires and drink beer on the gravel bar.

Dusty, I'm with YOU - smarter ever' day is it!

Well, as far as hunting in the snow goes ... or any other time - I can't say much.  I'm a city boy, thru- & thru'.  But II ain't so much city that I'm afeared to learn sumpthin' new.  I've been squirrel hunting once & got a rabbit.  Went rabbit hunting once and got a squirrel.   (By the way, I did [or would] ONLY shoot them critters with a 22 - a shoot-gun don't seem very sporting to me.  But that's just me.)  Then, a couple years back, my good pard Dave "Jed Cooper" Hollandsworth - who has been teaching me some things about hunting that us city-boys don't know, talked me into trying my hand at Deer hunting.  Well, I decided to do it RIGHT, so I dressed up in my finest, most accurate, NCOWS-approved clothing, (plus some Blaze Orange to be legal) stoked up my 1866 Winchester with my best Black Powder loads, and went deer hunting.

Didn't even SEE a deer.   :(

I did see a dog ... but I wouldn't shoot someone's best buddy.

It was fun, even 'tho it wasn't productive and I didn't add anything to the freezer-larder.  (I will only kill a critter if I was planning on eating it - no hunting "just" for a trophy for me.  Did I eat the squirrel & the rabbit I shot?  No - I learned many years ago how to shoot, but I DIDN'T learn how to skin a rabbit and/or squirrel.  Me & my buddy did such a BAD job of skinning, that we ruined them for eating.   :P

But it was interesting and a learning experience.  And venison is very tasty - and it does NOT taste like chicken!

Just saw the post Rowdy ,Sorry for the delay. I am supprised the deer look as good as they do. Here in Tx. we have really been hurting for rain. The Hill Country area is hurting the most. At the Lucky 11 ranch. We have lost about 80% of this yr. fawn crop so far. Sad in early June most mature doe had twin's . Now they are showing up alone. Dead fawn all over the pasture's from the HEAT. Saw the temp at 112 last Sat. The WT. buck's are looking great. Just lay in the shade all day . The Muleshoe ranch Mule deer are looking great the range has been rested for the past few yr. No livestock just wildelife. We have had very good summer rains there. Will set out the cammeras this month to start locating the big boy's on all three ranch. The 5C up in N/W Tx. has had normal rain and is stocked, and the WT. deer are looking great . Expect some real good Buck to be taken on the Ranch's this season. The gate is alway's unlocked for Ya Rowdy . Come on down and visit. Here is a pic' of a young Mule Deer Bk. seeing his reflection. This is a two yr. old Good Blood Line...,,,,,,,,Dusty

The weather this year is real strange . We have had lots of rain and cooler temps than usual . The temp has run highs in the 80's and lows in the upper 50's for August ??? I aint complaining because I work outside and it is GREAT weather . The corn and beans look real good this year , that makes the farmers happy .
