Howdy,
Does anyone know of a source for a new hand spring for a S&W New Model 3.  It is 44 Russian.

Try Dave Chicoine - he wrote the book on 'Gunsmithing the Guns of the Old West'.

You might try Lee Konig at Helz Guns in Forney.  He has boxes of odds and ends.

Would these contacts be helpful for s&w pocket pistol parts?

I know Dave Chicoine is - but can't speak for the others.

It'll depend on what you're looking for, when it comes to the S&W pocket revolvers.

Good Luck!

St George,

I believe Dave has withdrawn from retailing the antique parts.  This is sad as he has been a great source in the past.

Howdy,
As I posted earlier, I have a S&W new model 3 with a weak hand spring.  The gun is designed so the hand spring has a poor
mechanical advantage in pushing the hand and has to be very stiff and highly stressed.  I tried to reset the spring and it broke.
I tried to replace it with a Uberti spring but Uberti has changed the spring to have a better mechanical advantage and the
Uberti spring could not be modified to fit.  I then tried to make a new spring from scratch twice and both broke when installed.
I finally decided to modify the spring to a coil using the Ruger parts that we use on the Mod 1851's.  It works very smoothly and
reliably with the coil spring.

Well, I sent Dave a email asking if he knew of where I could get a hammer and trigger for my S&W No2 pocket pistol.

It functions very well, but the hammer won't stay back when cocked and moves forward about 1/4 of an inch, just enough to allow the cylinder stop to move and let the cylinder to rotate most of the time. If I could get this fixed it would make this a great shooter.

Very neat and clever fix.
