Hello the Barracks!
I watched the movie "Dead Man's Burden" last night and one of the characters used a Lemat revolver. During the final shootout, he shot all nine rounds and on the tenth let loose with the 16ga. Now my question is this, I thought something had to be tripped in order to bring the bottom barrel into battery. Am I thinking correctly, or could you just pull the trigger until all shots were fired? Just curious as I've never seen one used.

Best regards,

There is a manual lever on the hammer you need to flip when thumbing back the hammer to bring a striker down to engage the cap on the shotgun barrel.

That's what I thought John. It was hard to tell if the actor manipulated anything in order to shoot the shotgun. Have to watch it again just to see.

Thanks John!

A whole lot gets edited out of movies to 'keep the action going'. There's a chance something like this would get left on the floor after the cuts.
Yes, I do have more facial hair now.

Yes, it probably was edited. This movie was not big budget, but they did go to the effort to have correct firearms and leather. I like seeing that sort of planning in a movie. I saw a "western" a few years ago and the main character carried a Redhawk. That's where I quit watching.

I didn't think the LeMat shot barrel was as big as 16ga.

Hello Trailrider,
The first place I looked stated 16ga, but in looking a little further it is evidently a .63 caliber smoothbore. A 16ga measures .663".
Close but different. Still, it's a really interesting revolver.

Well, what's a 1/32" amongst friends! As long as you aren't tryin' to force a 16 ga. shell in a .63 cal. But, of course, the LeMat smoothbore was a frontstuffer. Might have been handy if you had a .63 cal. musket.  ;)
