Hello Lads,
I am hoping you boys can help me in finding the maker of a the holster shown in the grainy photos.
I found the photo in a copy of cowboy chronicles, I think the shooter is a feller named Black Harris, but not sure.

He is wearing a holster that I really want, as it has the design I need. I am ravaged with severe  arthritis in my shoulders back and neck,
but I won't stop playing cowboy until I am in Boot Hill

The holster is a double Mexican loop with wide rounded loops, and has a drop to the holster on a 3" money belt that puts the gun in the right height for me to easily grab.
It is also a speed draw, as the front is scooped out to expose the rear half of cylinder and a open trigger. It appears to have modest stamping and a small concho and some dots for bling.

If anyone knows the holsters or the cowboy in the photo, please give me a holler

Thanks,
Wolf Killer

We haven't seen you in here for a while. Welcome back. Perhaps a quick email to SASS with this question may help.

If you don't find what you're looking for, perhaps one of the pros here can pm you with some ideas on duplicating that rig or making one that would do the same job for you. We have some real talent here.

Marshal,
Thanks for the note and the welcome back.
I have been off my feed for the past few months, if you know what I mean, and it has kept me close the camp.

I slowly back on my horse, although it is a pony for now, and I want to compete, but I am lacking a proper rig for my pistols.
I have a pair of Uberti Schofields in 7" and a pair in 5" on order.
I also have a pair of 1875 Remingtons.
I am adding a new pair of Colt clones to the battery. I figure the best for me with my age,63 and the injuries is to compete in Frontier class, and long range with my Sharps

I like the holsters in the photos, as they might give me an edge with the arthritis in my shoulders, even with the long barrels.
I do not like wearing my guns down around my cheeks like some of the fellas and the girls like to wear.

I have some reproductions of 1870's and 80's holsters, but there is so much leather covering the pistols, I have to stand on a stool to draw.

Who would I email at SASS to find some help?

Thanks again,

Wolf Killer

Wolffkiller, at 71 and with osteoarthritis in a sjoulder anf hip and arthritis all over, I can appreciate the comments. I would guess you want to stay somewhat period correct or am I wrong? Whichever, I can testify that the most ergonomic holster POSITIONING is a holster that puts the top of the grip below the top of the belt or lower. And, with a barrel foward cant.
One, if you have to raise your collarbone and shoulder, the holster is too high. If you have to break your wrist forward and also raise your shoulder the cant is not efficient.
I really appreciate the art and craftmanship of the holsters of the old west. But there ain't nothin' out there that says you can't make a period correct rig ergonomically and comfortable for us old folks.
Bear with me and imagine one of those holsters positioned like Bob Munden's holster. A little rake, dropped a little, but all you have to do is pull it up a little and punch it toward the target.
Kinda like this old f...guy. They are cut down in front but they are comfortable to draw and fast.

Go to the SASS site and check in at the Saloon with the same question.

Black Harris was a moderator until recently and still stays in touch on a regular basis.
People like me are the reason people like you have the right to bitch about people like me.

Although my solution to this situation is unconventional these days, my rig is mostly correct historically. I use double belts, crossed to allow the pistol to ride low. It does require tie-downs for safety but otherwise, it's historically correct. My belts are 1 3/4" wide. Recently, I went to a prairie-style canvass shotgun belt for the right holster and a plain leather belt for the left. I can put as many shot shells in as I need. I have long arms and this allows me to draw without raising my shoulder.

Hello Lads,
I found out the maker is Matt Whitaker. I tried to email him but his Email addy is no good.
I learned that he is, was, shop manage at Bianchi Frontier, but the work for black Harris is custom. There is nothing in the Bianchi catalog close to the pictured holsters.
I don't know if Bianchi does custom work outside of their catalog. But I will give them a call.

If I get no luck, who do we have on the forums that do custom Mexican drop loop holsters?
Thanks,

Wolf Killer
